Store it and Go : Helpful Hints

1. Plan your storage space. Place those items that you need to get to often in the moving vehicle first (so they'll be place in the front of the storage space). Allow for walkways between stored items.

2. Make an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.

3. Use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Be sure they're strong enough to hold 25-30 pounds. Avoid putting too much in each box.

4. List the contents of each box on all for sides. Number the boxes. Seal the boxes with masking tape or glued paper tape.

5. Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier boxes.

6. Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in packaging paper and placed in dish pack boxes. Stack these on top.

7. Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for knick knacks, china, silverware, and small items. Wrap in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.

8. Larger appliances make excellent packing cases for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.

9. Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in mirror crates marked FRAGILE and stacked on end.

10. Place your storage items on pallets or place a tarp down to protect against dampness. Any concrete floor may become cold and damp.

11. Tables with removable legs should be taken apart to save space.

12. Cover stuffed furniture with dust covers to protect against dust.

13. Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective waterproof cover under the end on the floor. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and place on top.

14. If you stand mattresses on end, be sure to prop them up so they stand straight. Otherwise, they may get bent out of shape and become lumpy. Lift them up six inches off the floor.

15. Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside one another.

16. Caution: It is against the law to store materials that are hazardous or combustible such as gasoline, solvents, paint, etc. Drain all remaining gasoline from lawn mowers, power tools, snowmobiles, boats, etc. before storing them.

17. Place rodent traps or poisons in unit. Bugs may be in boxes or enter through unit doors.
